CRYSTAL MAGIC

1. For the uninitiated tell us about crystals and their mind-body-soul connection.

Crystals are gifts of Mother Earth carrying different energies and a variety of textures, colours,and properties for different purposes. The appearance and quality of a crystal is impacted by the way it's formed in a particular region. For example, the best Lapis Lazuli comes from Afghanistan and the best Turquoise comes from Iran.

There are many ways in which crystals help us. Most crystals are protective and grounding in addition to other properties.

 If we go by the chakra system , then we know that the chakras have 7 colours of the rainbow. The throat chakra is blue and if we want to strengthen it, we will use a blue crystal like Lapis Lazuli, Angelite, or Turquoise. For the red root chakra, Garnet can be used. Crystals carry different frequencies and the energy of the Earth hence they can heal or benefit us at an energetic level and we can feel or see the benefits in our actual lives. They bring us peace, calm, healing, love and prosperity, psychic development, good luck, and other things. 

2. Can you give us a rough idea about different crystals and their (healing) properties? (Atleast five different crystals)

There are millions of crystals and many more types are being discovered and mined all the time. Some of the popular ones and their properties are: 

Clear Quartz : Known as the Master Crystal, it brings in positivity, protection, good luck and abundance along with clarity of thought. It's clear like glass.

Amethyst: This is a lovely purple in colour. It helps with protection, good vibes, intuition, removing obstacles and blocks and promotes a calm and peaceful sleep. Chunks or clusters of amethyst can be placed in a room to promote good energy.

Rose Quartz: This is a lovely pink hue and helps in matters of the heart, promoting self-love, gentleness, happy feelings, forgiveness and attracting romantic love. 

Labradorite: This is a magical stone and a goos fortune talisman. It is grey  with a coloured shine in it called labradorescence which looks like it has the Northern Lights in it. This stone can help you to turn your fortunes around, bring you results, bring in serendipity and synchronistic events, money, weight loss and give you a happy high. It's a great tool for meditation and accessing higher realms too.

Black Tourmaline: This is a master stone for protection and guards us against our own negativity and that of others. It also reduces the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation. 

 Moonstone: It has a lovely pale white or beige hue with some spots in it and a soft shine; it resembles the moon. It helps to balance hormonal cycles, promotes good sleep, balances mood swings and negativity and makes us more intuitive. 

3. Scientifically, how does it work?

Crystals may look like pretty rocks or stones but they are actually intelligent living beings with a life force of their own. That life force or energy is called piezoelectricity. It can amplify an intention and it broadcasts our intention or its own energy. So we can put a wish or intention of our own in the crystal, known as programming, and it will send the signal out for us. Even if we don't program it, energy will still be broadcasted. Crystals are also in tune with the earth's energy field and so they can help us harvest that in a beneficial way. That's why we have crystal grids and placing crystals in certain directions.

 Crystals are very good at absorbing energy, especially negative ones, so when they absorb too much, they break. Or when their purpose with you is complete, they can break or disappear. This sound crazy but crystals choose you as much as you choose them. They almost pull you with an irresistible force so you have to get them.

4. What is charging a crystal?

A crystal is a living being and it has a life force or prana or chi, like all living beings. So the energy needs to be recharged or replenished. We also need to clear and clean the energy it has absorbed so it can be recharged. Crystals can be cleaned once a week. 

The ways to do this are: keeping it out in sunlight which is cleansing and charging, washing with salt water or plain water, keeping it in plants, charging it in moonlight, and cleaning with incense and candle flame. We can charge it also by programming it and keeping it in sunshine, moonshine, creating a sacred or happy place for it, giving it good vibes and love, talking to them, and basically clearing the space around them and giving them love and respect. If you keep crystals in plants, they will grow faster and healthier. Keeping a Clear Quartz in the fridge, will enhance the energy of the food and keep it fresher for longer. 

5. For many, crystal healing equals placebo effect. Your thoughts. Basically, will it work on someone who does not believe in the power of crystals?

Most alternative therapies equal placebo effect for many people but that doesn't mean they are not effective. I feel one has to be aware of the changes any crystal or therapy brings once we acquire or do it and then acknowledge that. In ancient times and civilizations, there were crystal temples for healing and today there are crystal healing beds and spas. 

Crystals do their work whether or not we believe in them so if someone has an illness and they go for crystal therapy or get a programmed crystal, it would help them even if they don't believe but they should acknowledge and be aware of the same. Many mothers give their children certain crystals for protection or better communication or help with anxiety and they have noticed changes. For the kids who don't understand what crystals are, it's a pretty accessory.
